Fear Neopets.

I was flipping through the December issue of Wired and found this frightening fact about Neopets:

Dohring brought two things to the company: expertise in market research and a deep commitment to the principles of Scientology. After college, he spent four years in Toledo working for the church in "counseling and communications." In the writings of Scientology leader L. Ron Hubbard, Dohring discovered a business model that would later become the foundation of the Neopets operation.

See?  See?  They're taking over the world, using celebrities and cute little cartoons.  Beware.

It gets worse.  Read the article.  The idea of immersive advertising is the scariest thing ever.  Good thing I'm going to be a back-to-the-lander soon.
