Ever since it was first published, I've been saying that Terry Gilliam would be the perfect choice to direct the movie version of Mortal Engines.
From Publishers Weekly:
Were there any books or movies that sparked some of your vision of that world?
Terry Gilliam's Brazil was a big influence—a fabulous retro-future envisioned by a man who really understands the appeal of ducts. There are obvious traces of Star Wars and James Bond and other movies from my childhood, as well as lots of less obvious influences, like the historical novels of Patrick O'Brian and Geraldine McCaughrean.
HA! I RULE.

I think Miyazaki would be better.
Referring to his Nausicaa flying machines and Howl's Moving Castle, I think he'd be perfect.

Nah, I'm with you --- Terry Gilliam is the man, after he finally finishes "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" starring Johnny Depp (for real).
