The Telegraph has compiled a list of 100 books that every child should read. I responded to the list as I have to every other book list I've come across:
One part, "Oh, good one."
One part, "What?? No WAY."
One part, "I've been meaning to read that."
One part, "That one sounds good."
Three parts, "How could they have left off x?"
In a nice move, they opened up the question to the public, and people have been adding their suggestions. There's not much in the way of recent books, either in the original list or in the comments section (though I haven't made it all the way through yet).

Lloyd Alexander's Prydian Chronicles and the Beggar Queen trilogy need to be on that list.

Glad to see The Outsiders on there. According to the Books-That-Make-You-Dumb guy (http://booksthatmakeyoudumb.virgil.gr/) if you read The Outsiders, you could find yourself attending some unaccredited bible college in the Florida panhandle. But I really liked that book, so I don't care. Hope there are still seats left in People and Pandas 101.

Oh wow. What a great list. I can't wait to hit the library this weekend.
It's a very English list, don't you think? I mean, practically every Roald Dahl book but no Susan Cooper at all? Hmm.
