...I went to SF33 this weekend and spent most of yesterday recovering*.
Highlights included:
Cloverfield: Up until a moment about three-quarters through the movie, I really dug it. But then that moment happened, my eyeballs rolled all over the place, and it never quite captured me again. But I thought the first three-quarters was fantastic.
Ever Since the World Ended: A fake documentary set about ten years after a plague has wiped out most people. It's about the survivors in the San Francisco area -- how they are coping, how they interact, etc. I especially liked the differences in how the teenagers and the adults dealt with their situation.
A Sound of Thunder: Don't listen to Steve. Avoid at all costs.
Black Sheep: Loved this so much that I went out and bought it yesterday afternoon. Genetically altered carnivorous sheep. Totally gross and totally awesome.
Journey to the Seventh Planet and King Dinosaur: Okay, the first one only made the list because of the amazingly bad acting (and because the audience giggled every time the characters/narrator said "Uranus") and the second one because the "King Dinosaur" was actually a huge iguana and it also featured strategically ripped clothing on the ladies and they all saved the day by detonating an atom bomb. Hilariously awful.
There were also lots and lots of great shorts -- my favorite was, hands down, La Puppe. Oh, and if you get the chance to see the Interstellar Radio Company perform, don't miss them.
I'm totally going to try and make it to the 2nd annual Horror Fest this October.
*Yes, I'm a huge wimp. Dude, I'm old. Give me a break.
Ever Since the World Ended sounds like a documentary version of the novel The Earth Abides (1948), which features the survivors of a humanity-decimating plague as they reform a society in Oakland (or maybe Berkeley?)imdb.com

Just ordered Black Sheep from amazon. It will be here Thursday! So excited! In the meantime, viewing Lake Placid and Slither to set the mood.
