- Damn. I had decided to skip Hancock, as I'm pretty tired of Will Smith. But that was before I knew that Jason Bateman co-stars...
- Michael Recycle? Seriously? Did we learn nothing from the utter lameness that was Captain Planet? (Warning to Brian: this bit might make your brain explode (sorry in advance if it does...)):
And using established film and TV writers means that the path back to Hollywood for screen adaptations may be easier for these properties, “because they’re being written by people that [the studios] know can produce great scripts for them,” Kurtz added.
- I shouldn't be excited about this. Just be aware that I am admitting nothing by linking to it.
- Holmes and Watson will be returning to the big screen. I suspect that the casting will cause some amount of controversy. I'm in the I-Adore-Everyone-Involved-But-I-Think-It's-A-Really-Bad-Idea camp.
- Cute Overload has posted a real tearjerker of a video. (My apologies for the Whitney.) I got curious, googled around and found a brief Wikipedia article about Christian the lion, a Daily Mail piece and a website about George Adamson.
- I'm not quite sure what "Her latest novel has "adventure" written through it like a stick of rock" means, but I'll read The Nostradamus Prophecy just because of the title.
- Just for the record, I am pro-Bookslut. Lowercase and capitalized, the term and the site. More along those lines at Ed's.
- Crazy-Ass Lit Lawsuit. More at Smart Bitches and, again, Ed's (third item).
More later, maybe -- hopefully I'll actually have time to write about some, you know, actual books that I've actually read recently!

(picking up bits of exploded brain)
Actually, I predicted this a while ago. I had a conversation with Andrew during the writers strike whereby I postulated that all those out of work writers were going to do what apparently several bored, middle-aged adults do: wake up one day and decide to write a young adult novel. Pegged it.
Skip HANCOCK but don't miss WALL E. Especially don't miss the short that precedes it.

I agree with Brian about the short that precedes WALL-E. Although I found the feature to be didactic and disturbing, as I said the other day chez moi.
I agree with you on the Holmes and Watson thing. Loved the folks, bad idea. Great links, all 'round.

A stick of rock is a kind of British rock candy usually sold at cheesy seaside shops and amusement parks. That doesn't do a whole lot to explain the metaphor, but there you go!

Oh my God. No, no, no, no!!! - in regards to the new versions of Holmes and Watson. The idea of it just gives me the hebee-jebee's!

BTW, in regards to the new Holmes/Watson: do you admire the restraint I used in not commenting on You-Know-Who?

Will Ferrell totally pulled off mostly serious in Stranger Than Fiction, but WATSON? Uhhh...
I guess I'm in the Sorry-but-I'm-Dubious camp.

So his name's Christian? I saw that video a little while ago and have kind of been wanting a pet lion ever since.

Rock usually has words written through it - so you can see the word at the top of the stick, or however far along the stick you choose to bite it. My gin and tonic flavoured stick of rock, for example, says 'gin' and 'tonic'. I'd forgotten I had that, yum.
