I know. Isn't St. Julia cool?
People swear by her first book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but I also rather like The Way to Cook, her baking books, and the posthumously published My Life in France which is where I first learned of her spy work. And I have her original TV series, too, The French Chef because I am a big nerd like that.

So, basically, if it's Julia-related, you're there?

My favorite is actual Julie & Julia, which is only tangentially about her. But still.

My Life in France gets my vote for books. Original "French Chef" video really shows her off though. She made me want to bake spaghetti squash as a kid, and I will always be appreciative of that.

You know, there has been talk about Julia Child working for the OSS, or at least being some kind of spy during WWII, for years. It's interesting that all this information has been released and that now we know about all these other people who worked for the OSS, too, but I'm kind of surprised that people are so...surprised...about Julia Child's part in all this.

I know pretty much nothing about Julia Child, other than that I loved looking at her kitchen at the Smithsonian -- so it was news to me!

The biography of her, Appetite for Life, by Noel Riley Fitch (best author name ever, I think) is FANTASTIC. Comprehensive but not dry, and definitely has a ton about her work for OSS and her relationship with her husband, whom she met "in the service." They actually got married the day after they were in a serious car accident. Julia is AWESOME.

Julie & Julia got me started reading about Julia Child, buy My Life in France is the best biography/autobiography I've read.

I can never hear her voice without thinking of the character she voiced in We're Back! A Dinosaur Story
