From the statement, as reported by the CBC:
"I can neither confirm nor deny that I have begun research into a new case, and I can neither confirm nor deny that the results are as dreadful and unnerving as A Series Of Unfortunate Events. However, I can confirm that Egmont will be publishing these findings."
While I'm one of the few people on the planet who never finished the series*, I do like to keep an eye on Daniel Handler's activities. The books didn't do it for me, but I'm a fan of him. He just seems like a good egg.

(*I got stuck halfway through the second book.)

It took a while for me to really get into the books -- for the first few, I enjoyed reading them, but found them very lightweight -- but the plot gets a lot more involved and interesting (and less repetitive) later on. Now I am super excited to hear he's writing more Lemony Snicket stuff!
Out of curiosity, have you read any of his work for adults? The only one I've read is The Basic Eight, which I loved.

You're not the only one that didn't finish the series. I read the first one and that was enough. It just didn't work for me. Then again, I'm the only person on the planet that didn't like Artemis Fowl...

Lindsey, you aren't alone -- I hated AF. Like, HATED it.
Ms Avery, I've been told by many people that the Snicket books really pick up around the fourth or fifth book -- but I'm a completist, so I've just never been able to slog through. I haven't tried his grown-up stuff, though it's on my list.

Ugh, I hated Artemis Fowl with a passion -- I don't even remember if I finished it, and I ALWAYS finish books.

Loved the Series of Unfortunate Events, except for the ending, which seemed like a huge cop-out. But I never understood why Artemis Fowl was so popular--I could barely get through the first one!

Ooh, I couldn't get past the second of the Snicketts, either. And I felt really guilty about that, because Handler is funny and witty and has a great band. I keep thinking that I MUST try again. Someday. Eventually.

I read through book 5. Every book is exactly the same. Oh look, what cross-dressing wacky outfit is Count Olaf going to wear this time. I have a feeling that adults really like this series a lot more than actual kids do. Actually, a while ago I read some study that it takes until you are like 10 or 11 to really distinguish sarcasm. I think a lot of that is lost on younger readers who attempt to read these books.

I couldn't get through them either. But have you seen his new picture book introducing the instruments of the orchestra? It's called The Composer is Dead, comes with him reading an audio version (complete with lots of music), and is laugh out loud funny.

I never finished the series either. I think I read the first two. And listened to the first on audio. Tim Curry is great, but his Count Olaf voice was just too much for me.

Oh, I hated Snicket and Artemis Fowl with a PASSION too! Glad to know I'm not the only one ;-)
