Sharry

Me fifth! I didn't like Junoe either.

Sharry

whoops, don't know how I managed that typo....

libraryliz

The only thing it has done for me is make me want to force my dad get out my boxes of SVHs from his attic. And I'm not sure how into that idea he's going to be. :(
I did like Juno but it did get a bit precious at times. Diablo Cody has done nothing but irritate me since, but I can't pinpoint why, you know?

Gina

I haven't yet seen "Juno." But it seems to me that people who start out being a little bit precious can rarely keep from blooming (for lack of a better word) into full-blown preciousness in the end.

Maureen E

I didn't like Juno either, personally.

Leila

She was just so very quirky that I wanted to punch her with her hamburger phone.

But then, I didn't like Stargirl, either. (But I liked the sequel, oddly!)

LaurieA-B

I just wish it would be set in full-blown 1980s Sweet Valley, in exaggerated style, like Clueless but '80s. That idea has potential.
Last spring's episode of Gossip Girl with the Lily flashbacks reminded me a lot of Sweet Valley High. There was a guy who looked EXACTLY like Bruce Patman, and acted like him, too.

Leila

That was my first thought when I heard about it -- I immediately thought of the Brady Bunch movies, but Clueless is a better example. And both managed to have affection for their characters.

I think the idea does have potential, but I found Juno so self-aware and precious that I don't have any faith in DC's ability to pull it off.

Leila: I hated Stargirl. Hated so much couldn't even bring myself to read the sequel. I liked the people acting in Juno but yeah, find me a kid today who will have a hamburger phone...yes, self-aware is the perfect phrase!

Laurie A-B: That's a great way to frame this movie! I've never seen Gossip Girl. Is it really worth watching?

Leila

LibraryLiz: Gossip Girl is totally worth watching. So worth it that my husband bought the first season for me and HE has been hinting about buying the second season. (I keep saying 'no' because I am fiscally responsible. He says I'm a miser, but I digress. Also, I think you have to have money in the first place to be a miser. Still digressing. Onward.) And, man, I'm always glad to find another non-Stargirl fan.

libraryliz

Ooh, interesting. I'll add it to my Netflix Queue.

Leila

I mean, you have to take it for what it is (an over-the-top nighttime teen soap done by the same guy who did The OC), but I adore it.

libraryliz

Oh yeah, that's what sounds good about it, though! And I loved The OC - at least the first 2-3 seasons. Sadly, I didn't 4th.
I work 2-10 Mon-Thurs, so I miss out on stuff. GG is one of those things I meant to watch & then wondered if it was worth it. (And didn't Kristen Bell narrate 1st season? Does she still or is that too cutesy now?)

Janssen

Bleck, I walked out of Juno. Not even worth two hours of my life.
