Wow, so not only has the Twilight saga made the Brontë books super-popular among the Twihard set*, but now there are at least three movies in the works.
Chuck Bass as Heathcliff, though. Oh, god. Does this mean I'll actually GO to the Wuthering Heights movie?
Probably. And I'll probably find his assiness likable.
I have no shame.

*Which is, you know, great, except that many of them probably think Heathcliff is a dreamypants dreamboat who looks just like Robert Pattinson's hair, when in actuality, BLECCH WITH A DOUBLE TOPPING OF BLECCCCCH. Which makes me wonder -- would they swoon over stupid Maxim de Winter, too? YUCK. YUUUUUUUCK.
**This footnote isn't actually attached to anything. Just wanted to share: Yesterday, I displayed Look For Me By Moonlight on the front desk with a card in it that read, "An antidote to Twilight". So far, every patron's response has been, "'An antidote to Twilight?' Why would you need one?" But I know that someone understanding will come along. Eventually.

Chuck Bass - Heathcliff, I don't know how I feel about that...what will they do with his hair?

Heathcliff is bleh, but I don't understand the hate for Maxim de Winter. Ideal husband? No way. But I think he and the narrator ended up a lot better once they started actually communicating.

I recently reread Rebecca, having adored Maxim/Laurence Olivier (hey, he's Heathcliff, too. And Darcy!) as a girl. And I am now appalled at my ownself. Maxim de Winter murdered a woman in a fit of rage. I don't care if she WANTED him to do it. I don't care how immoral she was. He killed a woman. And when you look hard at the text, the real reason he did it was because he didn't want her bastard child to inherit his precious house. He deserved to hang.

I read Rebecca for the first time a few years back, and I DESPISED him. And I felt that their relationship was hideously messed up, pre- and post-reveal (albeit in different ways).

I love that you put up an antidote to Twilight. I'll have to try that and see what my teens say :)

I had forgotten about Look For Me By Moonlight! I have it in the classroom library, and I know JUST who I will recommend it to. Thanks for the great recommendation.
(and yes, what is it about creepy guys in fiction. Rochester was no peach either. Sheesh.

I loved your review of Look For Me By Moonlight, it inspired me to read it and it was just so much fun! It is the perfect antidote to Twilight.
