That was on the copy I read as a kid! I actually read Jonathan Livingston Seagull afterwards...and went "huh?"

Awww. I love, love, loved those books. I was pretty sure I needed to move to Yorkshire and be a vet. Um... but the Seagull thing is an attempt at punning by an ignoramus.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull was fairly humorless, as I recall. He and the very funny, very down-to-earth Herriot would make a pretty odd couple.
Then again, might be a great idea for a spoof book . . . :-)
