I like to think this is a test to see if kids are, in fact, learning anything. An observant child will say "That's six, not five!" If your kid doesn't notice, he/she needs a little more time with the flash cards.

There are some screwy picture books out there. We actually returned one (we'd gotten as a gift) because it was so nonsensical, and not in a quirky/fun way. It didn't make any sense, and ended so abruptly that we thought maybe a page was missing. I hate that publishers apparently think kids won't notice?

Ever read the book by 1984 by Orson Wells. This is exactly what they did. Big Brother is watching.
