I'm only familiar with one of the books on the children's text (as opposed to illustration) list. But I'm intrigued by the others.

I have a copy of Graverobber's Apprentice but haven't read it yet. Allan Stratton is a big deal in Canada, though. His books Chanda's Secret and Chanda's War are huge here. Graverobber's Apprentice is his first foray into fantasy - I interviewed him when he was touring with TD Children's Book Week.
I reviewed In the Bag! which is nominated for children's illustration. The text is wonderful, and I adored the pictures. They're they kind you can get lost in - so many details, and they tell a story all on their own.

I feel that this shortlist is yet another example of the bizarre disconnect between the US and Canadian markets. I WANT TO BE AWARE OF MOAR CANADIAN BOOKS.
