From the Washington Post:
“It’s not about the author or the awards,” said Murphy, a mother of four whose eldest son had nightmares after reading “Beloved” for his senior-year Advanced Placement English class. “It’s about the content.”
AP level courses are college level courses.
In college, you read challenging texts.
AP level courses are not required.
And that is all I have to say about that.

Totally agree-if its not required & you dont like the curriculum, then don't take it.
Also, if Beloved doesn't deeply disturb you, you either didn't understand it or you're incredibly callous.

I was crossing my fingers that it wasn't taking place in Fairfax County, which is where I grew up. At least they voted in favor of keeping the book. It sounds like the part she was most bothered by was the bestiality, which admittedly, ew! However, she says something about how when she thought of mature themes with was slavery or the Holocaust. To me, what real people did to other people during the Holocaust is far more disturbing than a fictional account of bestiality. And disturbing things should give you nightmares, or at least cause you to have trouble falling asleep.
