The contenders are:
-
The Weight of Water, by Sarah Crossan
-
A Greyhound of a Girl, by Roddy Doyle
-
Maggot Moon, by Sally Gardner
-
In Darkness, by Nick Lake
-
Wonder, by R.J. Palacio
-
Midwinterblood, by Marcus Sedgwick
-
A Boy and a Bear in a Boat, by Dave Shelton
-
Code Name Verity, by Elizabeth Wein
I've read two (the Wein and the Doyle), but apparently I never got around to writing about the Doyle? Weird. A lot of these are on my TBR list, but especially the Gardner and the Sedgwick. You? Recommendations?

I read Wonder and really loved it. Code Name Verity is currently on my TBR list.

I just started In Darkness, and am on the verge of tears with every page. Whoa, Haiti.

I thought Greyhound of a Girl was thin.

@jmfausti: I have a copy of Wonder to read (hopefully) this weekend.
@Brooke: SCARY! It's on my list, of course, but thanks for the warning.
@Hope: I agree. There's a fine line between 'spare' and 'thin', and I think the Doyle book was more on the 'thin' side. I remember loving some of the dialogue, though.
