As much as I think this prize is cool and all, I say you can give the SoUE books a pass if you like. I read most of them and while they are interesting and all, I disliked the overarching doom and blearyness of the series.

though I will say, listening to them was great! We did the first one, which was voiced by Tim Curry. We listened to one or two later books voiced by Handler, which was also good. Hearing him do the voice of Carmelita Spats, who would sing-song "Cakesniffing orphans in the orphan shack!" was just hilarious. Really made that epithet of cakesniffer mean something, though I'm still not sure what. I mean, who hasn't sniffed a freshly baked cake?
