As another former bookseller, YES. I tell all my author friends to knock this stuff off right now, because it's so counterproductive. Especially because even if the one copy showing in stock has gone mysteriously missing, and no one can find it anywhere, the automatic stocking system won't order more.

My mom rearranges the library displays all the time to include books she likes and refuses to entertain the possibility that maybe they don't stay there very long because the librarians put them back, not because they get checked out.
