Agree wholeheartedly. Also, I have a small contingent of boys who love the Georgia Nicholson books.

I wonder if the "glittery pink covers" line isn't meant to tell publishers that chickwashing covers are to be avoided. I'm sick of seeing any YA book with a female protag showing a photo of a girl in a ball gown, and every MG book with a female protag using pink and/or glitter in lieu of ungendered references to actual contact. Our Angus has a big old cat on the cover. I'm with you in the idea of not wanting to forbid anything girly as lesser, but I'm so tired of anything with a female defaulting to girly.
