Not so long ago, I mentioned being interested in Jim Butcher's books due to his wonderful back-flap bio. (I'm sure that there must be some industry term for that...) But my library only has his most recent book, and obviously I couldn't start the series with the seventh book! (Yes, I'm one of those people. Usually.)
My daring and courageous husband to the rescue! Due to not having the same series-order issues, he read it and liked it so much that he went out and bought the first four. (Used.) So I read this one. (The first one.)
SO MUCH FUN. They're perfect bathtub books, with sentences like:
I was stuck in a frozen elevator, handcuffed to my unconscious friend who was dying of poison while a magical scorpion the size of some French cars tried to tear its way into me and rip me apart.
FUN. FUN FUN FUN!
Fans of Laurell K. Hamilton might enjoy him. (Then again, they may not. Some of them seem to be rather picky.) I can say with no reservations AT ALL that Steve will like them.
What? is there a cowboy romance involved?

Picky, huh? Can't imagine who you are talking about. I've already been looking into getting these, they sound like a hoot.
And there is NOTHING wrong with reading a series in its proper order. I think places that only stock the most recent of a series need to accept that their buyer should be beaten with a nerf implement of some sort. (I read Haunted before we got the rest of the series, thanks to confusion with pen names, and we hadn't started carrying them yet. I was so annoyed.)
