From The Sun Herald (via Bookslut):
All the books in the relationships section of Waldenbooks at the Singing River Mall in Gautier have been pulled from the shelves and are in storage.
The store will sell you one, but for now, they are not on display. Instead there's a sign in the section that says Waldenbooks has been censored.
In fact, the censorship is self-imposed to avoid the possibility of having the store's manager, Ryan Swaims, 22, arrested for displaying a book one customer insists is indecent and obscene and should not be available for children to see.
I just... yeah. People are crazy.
This lady and the cat lady in Boston should hang out.
In related news (also via Bookslut), Rainbow Boys has been pulled from a summer reading list because some parents objected to the content.
Now. If they'd complained because the book isn't actually very good, and could maybe be replaced with something better, they'd have a point. But I doubt they've actually read it, so they wouldn't know that, now would they?
[Later: More on the Rainbow Boys situation. It's worse.]
I thought of your post when I read the article. Heh.
And I'm glad someone else is with me on Rainbow Boys.
