The parents of an unidentified 17-year-old female student in the class complained about half a dozen pages of unassigned reading in the book that detail sexual relationships and contain foul language.
I think that says it all.
Oh, right. The class is an elective.

See now, on this one, the fact that the class is an elective doesn't play into it for me. It might be an AP class that the student really needs for college admissions, etc. Or even if not, it still seems like I ought to be able to take a class, even an elective, in high school and not be subjected to yadda yadda, etc etc.
BUT, they're complaining about a half-dozen pages of UNASSIGNED reading? Tear the stupid pages out, and move on. (Not that I advocate defacing or damaging books, mind you, but you get my point. Let's say, paper-clip those pages shut, don't remove the paper-clips throughout the semester, and you'll survive it just fine.)
I'm disappointed in the school board's decision on this. Sigh.
