From the Harvard Gazette:
J.K. Rowling, author of the world-renowned “Harry Potter” novels, will be the principal speaker during the Afternoon Exercises of Harvard University’s 357th Commencement on June 5, 2008.
Ah, Harvard graduation. 3 bazillion proud family members, all wanting to buy Oh, The Places You'll Go. It's something that very much DOESN'T make me miss The Monkey.
Yes, I have heard about it, and for some reason it kind of bothers me. It really seems as though they ought to have someone more... academic? Not exactly the word I am looking for, but it is close.

I'm kinda psyched about it, actually -- it's a firm statement from President Faust that she's a different kind of person from Larry. I'm sure the rest of the honorees will be more traditional choices.
Totally skipping work to attend the afternoon alumni session that day . . .

I figured the response would be mixed -- and EM, I hope you'll write about it!

Oh my gosh. I have no connection to Harvard but I will try to weasel my way in. Sleeping bags on Harvard Yard?

As an MIT student, I'm just disappointed that That Other School got to her first.
