I felt the same way about the 80's references, Leila. And I read shortly thereafter another book set in the early 80's (No Cream Puffs) that did this so much better, with a lighter touch.

I think you hit the nail on the head about reading the books in spite of the writing style. Jack is a great character.

Oh, Jen, I'm glad you said that -- I was a little bit worried that I wasw going through one of my overly picky phases. I'm adding No Cream Puffs to my TBR list, as well as more Jack books!
