Checking in the bookdrop, we found this donation:
To which my co-worker said (yes, we talk to books):
"Oh, no you won't."
Then she mocked his surfer hair and we almost died when we discovered that he'd been given a haircut on the cover of the reprint.
We also found a donation of Danielle Steel's The Cottage. Which, like pretty much all Danielle Steel books, has an amazing author photo:
Which led us to have a way-too-long-discussion about what Ms. Steel is wearing under that wrap, whether or not she dresses like that on a daily basis, who would win in a slapfight with Joan Collins, and if, assuming that there was a lack of top under the wrap, she could've gotten a job at Vassalboro's late lamented topless coffee shop.
And I'm not even going to post the terrifying ad we discovered on the back of Yoga Journal.
According to every patron who's been in this afternoon, it's gorgeous outside (and thank you all SO MUCH for telling us about it), so maybe that's why it's been so quiet.
Oh, wow. That Lurlene McDaniel cover. So very mockable...Thanks for sharing!

Lurlene? Seriously?
Now I'm going to have "Bunk with Me Tonight" in my head ALL DAY!!

I work at a college library & we get lots of mockable mass market paperbacks from the local library in our bookdrop. My favorite game to play with them is "Guess which Ph.D took this out" - so funny!

OMG. I'm changing my name to "Lurlene" like, NOW.

Yeah, I can guess what's on the back of the yoga journals. The used bookstore which has free books outside had a bunch of them out there and they look scary. You sometime can find good stuff there, but often it's wth?

Thanks for the laugh this morning! Too funny :)

Clearly, I need to rethink the concept of my author photos. I want a huge polka dot ballgown too!

Boy, does that bring back memories. My sister used to be SO into Lurlene McDaniel, and pretty much any other teen novel about disease, doom and death. There was one especially cheerful one about lupus, I recall (not a McDaniel, though, I think).

this is my favorite of all of Danielle Steel's delightfully evil-looking portraits. my theory on this is she was walking naked down Bellevue Ave in Newport (where the book takes place), minding her own business, and was attacked by the most hideous pair of drapes in all of New England. it could happen.
