The children's shortlist is:
Solace of the Road by Siobhan Dowd
Troubadour by Mary Hoffman
The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
Guantanamo Boy by Anna Perera
I've read zero. Solace of the Road is currently in my TBR pile, as is The Knife of Never Letting Go (I know, I KNOW! But obviously I'm not going to read Ask/Answer until I read Knife). I did read a Mary Hoffman book ages ago, and I wasn't a fan, but I'll give her another try. I haven't heard anything about the Perera.
The grown-up stuff is available at the Costa website.

I thought Knife of Never Letting Go was fantastic. Haven't gotten my hands on Ask and Answer yet. And none of the other authors sound familiar...oh wait! Siobhan Dowd did Bog Child, right? Which I haven't read yet either.

Patrick Ness is the MAN. I still need to read The Ask and the Answer, though I might wait until next year, when the third one comes out. Do a crazy dystopian marathon thing. Hmmm...
