Ariana Franklin died earlier this year.
How did I miss that?
Rats.
I wish I still didn't know.

I am so sad that she died. I was really enjoying her series and kept waiting for a new book to be announced and then someone told me she was ill. Next thing I heard she was ill...

I know, it's devastating every time I think of it. I haven't read the most recent Mistress of the Art of Death novel, and now I can't bring myself to, because I've heard that it ends on an unhappy (or unsatisfactory) cliffhanger, and there might never be another....

I'm gutted! I love the series and the last book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. How sad that such a marvelous talent is no longer with us.

Oh no! I hope the news didn't make you cry! (I saw from your other comment that you're trying to avoid...)

Fortunately no tears, just bewilderment and acute disappointment. Thank you for your concern. I did a lot of sanitized swearing as I was at the front desk at work. All I could think was 77 is not really old and "no more Mistress of the Art of Death?"

I was distressed to hear that as well a couple weeks ago. I don't know how I didn't notice that earlier in the year. I am disappointed to not be able to read any more Mistress books.
