...and I'd better get reading, because I've read a measly ONE of the books on the YA list.
ONE.
Here's the list:
Iron Hearted Violet, by Kelly Barnhill
Black Heart, by Holly Black
Above, by Leah Bobet
The Diviners, by Libba Bray
Vessel, by Sarah Beth Durst
Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman
Enchanted, by Alethea Kontis (<--That's the one I've read. LOVED IT.)
Every Day, by David Levithan
Summer of the Mariposas, by Guadalupe Garcia McCall
Railsea, by China Miéville
Fair Coin, by E.C. Myers
Above World, by Jenn Reese
Dude. You need to read IRON HEARTED VIOLET.

Dude. I totally do: when I saw the cover art, I WANTED THE BOOK TO BE IN MY HANDS IMMEDIATELY.

You haven't read Seraphina, WHAT?
I've read four and tried two others, so I guess that's a decent representation. I can't believe that Black Heart was published just last year...I could have sworn it was older than that!

I know! I even OWN it! Like, I BOUGHT MYSELF A COPY WAY BACK WHEN AND EVERYTHING.
I just... haven't sat down and read it.
I think I might possibly be doing the avoiding thing because it has inspired so much buzz/praise/swooning?

I loved Enchanted too! I feel like it hasn't gotten nearly enough attention, so yay for this nomination. I've also read Every Day (kind of cool?) and Railsea (looong and weird but ultimately awesome.) And poor The Diviners and Seraphina...sitting patiently on my shelf since the fall. Sigh. (They're just so long! But I know--I hope--I will love them!)

Even so, you are doing WAAAAY better than I am! I shall have to start ILLing titles.
Well, after I bring back my overdue books. Sigh.

No, no: start with DIVINERS! Evil is afoot in 1920s NYC and it's up to a plucky young flapper to get to the bottom of it! :-)

I second Lisa - THE DIVINERS!!!! Plus, how could you not have read it? It's full of wonderfulness. Also, it reaffirmed all the reasons why you should never go into a creepy haunted house. EVER. (I already knew this from Stephen King, but it helps to be reminded.)

Partly, I think, because I was on the YA panel (as opposed to SF/F YA) for the Cybils this year, and also because it was a BIG BUZZ BOOK, and I tend to tiptoe around those.
Good to know about the haunted house! That makes me especially excited to read it! Like you, I also have a personal rule about Not Entering Haunted Houses (REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH PEER PRESSURE THERE IS) from years and years of watching horror movies. (And, yes, Stephen King.)

Loved Enchanted (learned about it from you), and also loved Seraphina and The Diviners.

My work is clearly cut out for me! (Glad you liked Enchanted, too!)

I'd just like to weigh in with how much I loved Every Day. I'm also part way through Seraphina now, and enjoying it a lot.

@Nona: I'm going to have to see if I have a copy of Every Day at home. If not, I will totally request it at the library! :)
